When is a steam room the better choice in Bogor?

Dry heat is what most Bogor families ask for first, but there are households where a steam room wins. Anyone with sensitive airways tends to prefer 45 °C wet to 85 °C dry. Guests at wellness resorts in Megamendung expect both and use them in sequence. And in a house where a bathroom is being rebuilt anyway, converting a corner is often less disruptive than finding two square metres for a timber cabin.

The trade-off is honest: wet heat costs more per square metre than a dry cabin, takes 3–5 weeks rather than 2–4, and demands more maintenance in a climate that is already wet. What it gives back is a room children enjoy, sessions that can run twenty minutes without effort, and an interior of mosaic and light rather than timber.

How is a steam room built so it never leaks?

The order of work is not negotiable. A liquid membrane goes over slab and walls and is taken up behind every finish; the floor is laid to a fall towards a drain; the ceiling is sloped so condensation runs to the walls instead of dripping on whoever is below. Only then does mosaic go on. Skipping the membrane to save a week is the single most common reason we are called back to somebody else's steam room in Bogor.

Doors and glass are 8 mm tempered with a full-height seal. Benches are formed and tiled rather than timber. The generator sits in a ventilated cupboard within a few metres of the room, with a service valve reachable without breaking tiles — an obvious point that is missed surprisingly often.

Power, water and drainage for a wet room

A 2×2 m room needs a 6–9 kW steam generator, which means 7,700–11,000 VA on the meter. Most clusters in Sentul City, Rancamaya and Bogor Nirwana Residence already have that; older houses in Kota Bogor normally need a PLN change of capacity, applied for before fabrication and paid by the owner. The circuit uses heat-resistant cable, a dedicated breaker and an ELCB.

On the water side the generator needs a supply with reasonable pressure and, in areas with hard water, a softener to stop scale shortening the element's life. Drainage has to be a real fall to a trapped gully, not a token slope. Where a villa on the Puncak road runs on a spring or tank supply, we add a filter and size the tank around session length.

A turnkey 2×2 m room is an indicative IDR 50–100 million, including waterproofing, mosaic, the generator, glass and the electrical and water connections. Commercial rooms for a spa, gym or resort start at IDR 150 million. Repairing a leaking room built by someone else runs IDR 15–50 million depending on how much has to come off the walls.
