Who actually buys a portable sauna out here?

Mostly three groups. Tenants in Kota Bogor want the heat without disturbing a landlord's own walls. Over in Gunung Putri and Kota Wisata, families are road-testing the habit before they commit to a custom build, while people with small weekend flats need something they can take apart and move the moment their lease, or their plans, change.

The cabin itself runs 1.2×1.2 m or 1.5×1.2 m and stands two metres tall — tongue-and-groove pine walls, an 8 mm tempered-glass door up front. It gets to temperature in 25–35 minutes and holds 70–90°C once there. Think of it less as a comfort compromise and more a capacity one: two adults fit comfortably, a third does not.

How this differs from a cheap marketplace sauna box

Bargain units sold online are typically single-skin plywood lined with a foil sticker masquerading as insulation, paired with a heater of unknown origin. Give Bogor's humidity a single wet season and they warp, and what follows next is a smell nobody mistakes for anything else. Ours borrow the built-in cabin's own layering instead — proper insulation, a real vapour barrier in aluminium, and a gap behind the lining that actually lets air move — just at a smaller scale.

The heater is a proper imported brand with a guard, one to two years of factory cover, and spare parts stocked in Indonesia — not a mystery element you can never replace. The electrics get the same treatment: its own circuit off your consumer unit, heat-resistant cable, a breaker and an ELCB, wired by our own fitters and proven together with a test before we leave.

Does this run on a 2,200–5,500 VA meter?

A portable unit draws 3–4.5 kW, which sits comfortably within 4,400–5,500 VA. On a 2,200 VA meter, though, the kettle switching on alone is enough to trip it — meaning the owner either pays to raise the supply through PLN's capacity service, or switches to an infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW instead, which is what most older houses around Sempur and Empang end up choosing anyway.

We check the actual meter at survey stage rather than take your word for the number, because in clusters around Sentul City the capacity on paper and the capacity actually installed often don't match. Used three or four times a week, a portable unit costs around IDR 200,000–500,000 a month to run.

There is no drainage, no waterproofing, no wet trades involved at all — just a level floor, a clear wall to run the wiring against, and roughly 20 cm free behind it so air can move.
