How infrared heat works, and who actually needs it here

Carbon panels emit infrared wavelengths that heat skin and muscle tissue on contact, so the cabin air itself barely needs to climb past 45–60°C — a world away from pushing the whole room to 80°C. It's ready in 10–15 minutes instead of the half hour a dry cabin wants. Sessions tend to run longer as a result — 25 to 40 minutes is typical — and the sweat builds gradually rather than all at once.

Around here, the meter usually makes the decision before the buyer does. Plenty of colonial homes and 1970s builds scattered through Sempur, Taman Kencana and Empang are stuck on a small 2,200–4,400 VA supply, wiring nobody's eager to touch. People who simply prefer gentler heat, or find 90°C excessive, land on infrared too — along with apartment owners in Kota Wisata, where a bigger heater would mean negotiating with a building manager first.

Infrared or dry heat: which one actually fits?

They solve different problems. A dry sauna gives you the whole ritual — water hissing off hot stones, a wave of dry heat, then a cold shock to close it out — and seats a family together. Infrared is quieter, more personal, and draws far less power; the heat runs deeper even though the ceremony is smaller. Need a space where the whole family gathers to talk? That is what the dry cabin is for. Need twenty quiet minutes to yourself once a Sentul run is done? That is exactly where infrared wins.

The maths is not always obvious. IDR 55–70 million buys the equivalent two-person dry cabin, not far off the IDR 30–70 million an infrared build runs — but infrared alone sidesteps the PLN upgrade, skips the ventilation work entirely, and installs within a single day. Run that comparison over five years on a small meter and infrared usually wins.

Is a 2,200 VA meter really enough for this?

Yes, with a bit of care. Draw is modest either way — roughly 1.7 kW for one person, 2.4 kW for two. A 2,200 VA meter copes fine provided the water pump and air conditioning do not happen to switch on together; step up to 3,500–4,400 VA and that concern disappears completely. We still fit a proper dedicated circuit with an ELCB rather than an extension lead off the nearest socket, and confirm nothing trips while the rest of the household runs as usual.

Siting causes none of the headaches a dry sauna does: skip the drain, skip the waterproofing, skip venting a column of hot air anywhere. All it asks for is a level floor, roughly 10 cm clear behind it, and shelter from direct rain — a landing, a spare room, or a covered Rancamaya terrace will all do.

What it costs, and how quickly it goes in

Installed cost for one or two people sits at an indicative IDR 30–70 million — hemlock costs less than red cedar for the shell, and standard carbon panels less than full-spectrum ones. Fitting takes 1–2 days start to finish, wiring and a joint test session included.
