Why dry heat works so well in a Bogor house

On the coast, you step out of a hot cabin straight into 31°C of soup and the whole effect is gone in seconds. Bogor works the other way round. Evenings settle near 20°C in Tajur and Bogor Nirwana Residence, drop to 15–18°C in Sentul City once the rain has passed, and sit at 14–16°C in Cisarua after dark. Against that, 70–90°C at 10–20 per cent humidity feels like being wrapped in a blanket, and it's the hill air that does the actual cooling, the instant you crack the door open.

There's a second, more practical reason too: this is often the only room in a Bogor house that is ever properly dry. When the air outside sits at 90 per cent and the washing has been hanging for three days straight, fifteen minutes on the top bench does something for stiff shoulders and a tight chest that a heater in the living room never will. For households spanning three generations, we build two bench heights — grandparents lower where the air runs cooler, everyone else up top.

Five wall layers, none of them optional in this climate: interior panel, 50 mm rockwool, an aluminium foil vapour barrier, a 20 mm air gap, and only then a facing layer — Scandinavian spruce, thermowood, or western red cedar. The foil keeps steam out of the insulation; the gap lets the cladding dry from behind between sessions. Cut either corner and the cabin smells of damp by its third rainy season — we've pulled apart enough of those to know.

Ventilation does the rest. Cool air comes in low, next to the heater; damp air leaves through an extract fan on the far wall, set to keep running after each session ends. Benches are aspen or abachi — both stay cool underneath you and never weep resin. Ulin and bengkirai are genuinely tough timbers, but they belong on outdoor decking, not inside the cabin.

Matching the heater to what your meter allows

Cabin volume decides heater size, and the heater decides what your meter needs to supply. A two-person 1.5×1.2 m cabin wants a 3.6 kW heater and roughly 5,500 VA. The four-person 2×2 m cabin most people order runs a 6 kW heater on 7,700 VA. Go to six or eight people at 8–9 kW and you need 11,000 VA; past ten people, three-phase becomes the only option. Plenty of older houses around Sempur or Empang are still on 2,200–4,400 VA, in which case a PLN capacity upgrade comes first — paid by the owner, and priced for you before the quote, never sprung on you after.

The circuit itself is never up for discussion: heat-resistant SiHF cable, its own breaker, an ELCB. If upgrading genuinely is not an option — a rented place, a shared meter — the straight answer is an infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW instead.

How the build actually runs, start to handover

The free survey leads to a visualisation and a line-by-line quote. A 50 per cent deposit sets the workshop in Bogor Selatan cutting panels, benches and the 8 mm tempered glass door — one to two weeks, running alongside material sourcing. Fitting on site then takes 2–4 weeks, depending on size and how much electrical work is involved.

Access matters more to the timeline than distance ever does. Panels travel in sections light enough for two people to lift, which makes a cramped Rancamaya cluster stairwell or a steep Gadog driveway routine rather than remarkable. What it costs

Figures are in rupiah and already cover the heater, stones, SiHF cable, breaker and ELCB. A PLN capacity upgrade is billed separately to the owner, and the number turns firm only after we have measured the room.
